Branscombe is one of East Devon's prettiest villages. Its thatched
cottages standing against a backdrop of National Trust Land. The road through
the village winds past the Post Office Stores, the Norman Church, working
Forge and forks off to the beach.
There are numerous walks in the area which is designated as an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty. the Heritage coastal Path runs along the
headland and is a popular walk for both visitors and local people.
Sidmouth is the nearest town and offers excellent shopping, cinema and
local theatre, together with good sandy beach at low tide. The fishing village
of Beer lies about 3 miles to the east with its range of places to eat and
enjoy a traditional Devon cream tea. Boating and fishing trips are available
from the Cove and further along the coast at Lyme Regis famous for its Cobb
and harbour.
The cathedral city of Exeter lies some 17 miles to the west offering a
variety of attractions. Honiton approximately 9 miles has a flourishing
antiques centre and is famous for its lace and pottery. It also has an
interesting twice weekly street market.
Within easy distance are golf courses at Seaton, Honiton and Sidmouth, a children's play park an tennis court is available at the village hall in the village. Horse riding nearby and there are new modern swimming
pools at Axminster, Exmouth and Sidmouth.
